Harvest conditions ‘nearly ideal’

2 Nov 2018

As a mechanical harvester lifted cabernet sauvignon grapes from vines at his family’s vineyard southeast of Tracy earlier this week, grower Jeff Brown could see the light at the end of the harvest tunnel.

“We should be finished by the end of this week,” he reported. “The long spell of moderate temperatures has made it possible to wind up as best as possible.”

Brown is among a number of Tracy-area farmers who have completed, or are in the process of completing, their 2018 harvest in what has become a nearly ideal harvest season for grapes, tomatoes, walnuts and almonds.
