City Relocates Naglee Park & Ride to Tracy Transit Station South Lot

2 May 2016

Tracy, Calif. –The City ofTracy announced today that it will relocate the current Naglee Rd. Park and Ride lot to the Tracy Transit Station south parking lot effective May 20, 2016. The existing Park and Ride spaces at the Shops at Northgate Village (former Tracy Outlet Center) will remain available for commuter use.

Since September 2015, city staff has been working with Commute Connection and San Joaquin Regional Transit District (SJRTD) to identify an alternative location that would meet Tracy commuter needs. Feedback received from the community and results from a survey distributed by Commute Connection and the City of Tracy in March, indicated that commuters want a safe and secure park and ride location with amenities such as bike lockers, which is close to the I-205 freeway. Although several I-205 area locations were targeted, discussions with local retail centers were unsuccessful.

“Gaining direct service to Bay Area Rapid Transit (BART) at the Transit Station opens up a tremendous opportunity for Tracy commuters,” stated Andrew Malik, Development Services Director for the City of Tracy. “We are also currently in discussions with a local developer to potentially secure and develop a new Park and Ride lot along the I-205 freeway, adding even more commuter use parking options for Tracy commuters.”

Park and Ride Locations

There are two designated Park and Ride lots within city limits that are on a first-come, first-served basis. The largest, located at the Transit Station south lot at 50 E. 6th St., has 142 spaces, bus shelters, benches, 12 bike lockers, improved lighting, and restroom availability between 8:00 a.m. and 7:00 p.m. Overflow parking only is also available in the North parking lot. All commuters using SJRTD for connections to RTD BART 150 routes or using Bay Area Commuter Routes should use this location. Vanpools and Carpools that currently use the Transit Station for drop-off/pick-up should continue to use this location as well.

Pescadero Ave. This lot has 45 spaces facing Pescadero Ave. located just outside of the gated center. This lot should be used for charter bus and van pool riders transitioning from the former Naglee Rd. lot.

Andrew Malik also commented, “We recognize that security is a big concern for Park and Ride users. We anticipate that due to its central location and increased pedestrian traffic, the Transit Station site may provide added security for commuter vehicles.”

In January 2016, the City of Tracy City Council approved the development of a new Chipotle Mexican Grill and Panera Bread development at the current Naglee Road Park and Ride location. Construction is scheduled to begin on May 21, 2016.

Information on park and ride locations, including a location map, can be found by visiting www.commuteconnection.com, www.sanjoaquinrtd.com, and www.ci.tracy.ca.us. A construction project sign will also be posted at the Naglee Rd. site notifying commuters of the closing date and where to obtain more information.
