TRACY DOWNTOWN PLAZA GRAND OPENING
(TRACY, CA) –Tuesday, May 1, 2012 marks the Grand Opening of the Tracy Downtown Plaza. The plaza, which broke ground in August 2011, will serve as the City’s primary public gathering place and will be the site for many community events, such as the Farmer’s Market, Tracy’s Dry Bean Festival, Movies on the Plaza, Taste of Tracy, outdoor concerts, family-focused events, and holiday events.
The plaza is located at Sixth Street and Central Avenue, immediately adjacent to the Tracy Transit Station. The plaza is a full block in length and includes an interactive water feature, lush shade trees, lawn areas, attractive paving stones, and a roundabout with a placeholder for an artistic landmark sculpture to be built in the future. Food, music, fountains, outdoor seating, sun and shade will draw people to the plaza to feel a sense of shared community, and to linger in the comfort and enjoyment of Downtown Tracy.
“We feel the new plaza is an outstanding complement to many existing downtown features such as the Grand Theatre, the Fire Administration Plaza, and 10th Street Streetscape, etc.,” said Jan Couturier, District Manager of the Tracy Community Center Association (TCCA). “We are doubly excited as it gives the community a wonderful venue to enjoy many downtown activities.”
The Grand Opening event is open to the public and will begin promptly at 11:00 a.m. at the plaza, Sixth Street and Central Avenue, with a short program and ribbon cutting ceremony. Refreshments will be served directly following the program.
